The Doors - The Crystal Ship / Dick Clark Interview / Light My Fire

Lol Jim - Dick asks, What is it about san Fransisco that is so special? And Jim says, "Uhm... The West is the best." Haha bet he was stoned

So nice of Dick to give all the band members a chance to talk, and not go just to the frontman, like some do so often.

I met Jim Morrison just before his concert in Chicago late 60's. We were panhandling trying to get enough money to buy a ticket and met a girl who painted a portrait of Jim. While we were talking to her, a person approached us and told us that Jim wanted to meet us. So he took us inside of the Chicago Coliseum where she gave him the amazing portrait she had painted. We talked with him for about 10 minutes. As down to earth and kind person I had ever met. He let us into the show for free.

Just Talk
Dick: "How do you categorize your music? Does it have a name?" Ray: "Well it's impossible really to put a label on it because of where we are in the music. Being on the inside, you're only of the music and all categories come from the outside. So someone else is going to have to say what our music is because we are our music." Holy...shit. Ray deserves a Nobel prize.

Look at how confident Ray is with answering Dick regarding their music....let's see a musician of today supply an answer like that. They can't. All they do is stand there with a stupid smile on their face and say something like "Uh yeah, it's great. Gonna go on tour and everything and we've had a great time and uh, yeah."

Morrison's posing hasn't held up that well, but he was, hands down, the best looking rock star ever, to this day.

Crystal Ship makes far more sense if you've ever dropped acid. It is, of course, about acid but it also evokes a fractured, hallucinatory landscape that is really stunning and will only resonate with its true radiance if you have actually experienced it.

Saw the Doors in Dallas. Was their next-to-last concert. Their music definitely changed my life, hopefully for the better. Jim Morrison was the only hero I ever had. Prior to being turned on by the Doors in 1968, my favorite group was Herman's Hermits - a radical shift in thinking. I was sixteen.

Midnight Writings
A poem about Jim Morrison from a book on amazon titled:  "Midnight Writings by a Distant Mind Lost in Time"  "Through the Breaks" A wild child like the calm before the storm, a mesmerizing danger stirs up the world with a whirlwind of words. A lizard king waits in the sun among the desert lords, a spirit and mind mixed together with a poetic nature, steps through the breaks of time opening the door to the other side. Between this world and the next, his voice will be heard forever echoing from the beyond, tune in or tune out, however you can hear the songs. "RIP Jim Morrison"

Lol Ray is so in it in the first interview he didn't even stand up. "we are in the music. Being on the inside you're only of the music and all categories have to come from the outside." Dick was like...oookay. moving along. lol Still beautifully poetic answer. Such a gorgeous bunch.

Loved the Doors since I was 13 when I was listening to an old box of vinyl records that my Mom and Dad used listen too. My Mom liked Floyd, Sabbath, the Doors and Zep, my Dad was into the Beatles, the Kinks and the Stones. I had a dearth of killer material to indulge in, and it was the Doors that blew my mind the most. I was also dabbling in weed already at that age too, not every day, but every so often which enhanced their amazing music and lyrics! I've turned my wife into a fan now too!

Morrison is one guy I'd go back in time to party with if I had access to a time machine. Once I was there I'd destroy the time machine and stay there in that time period.

Light My Fire changed my life (at least the music part of it). It was a complete revelation in that summer of 1967. Nothing could have been any more earth shattering. I remember seeing this on TV. Dick Clark, what a guy. The Who's Who of music in those days appeared with him and there will never be anything like it again. Good Times to be alive.

Had to play it "safe" on TV Still..I am so glad they shot this. You can see/hear how "cool/hip" they were. Jim had women all the time. Thanks Dick Clark

1967 I was a 13 year old newspaper boy, when this LP came out I road my bike to the record store and bought it with my newspaper money, raced home and played it late into the night until my mother came in my room and turned my Zenith record player off and told me to go to bed, reminded me I had to get up at 5:00 and deliver papers.., next morning I road my bike delivering papers humming this song while the sun came up..

Freaking Morrison knew how to dress. Most of his outfits were pretty cool. He also was a master at movements with the music. His IQ was off the charts and he majored in theater arts. So he knew how to use drama. To me Morrison was the best frontman ever.
